How to use Compress PDF

PDFVelora shrinks your PDF by cleaning up its internal structure and, at the stronger levels, downsizing and re-encoding large images. Choose Light to keep images at full print quality, Recommended for a much smaller file that still looks good on screen and on paper, or Extreme for the smallest size, with noticeably softer images. Text stays sharp and selectable. If the result isn't smaller, you get your original file back unchanged.

  1. Upload your PDF

Drop the PDF on the page or choose it from your device.

  2. Choose a compression level

Pick Light, Recommended or Extreme. Recommended suits most documents.

  3. Compress

Start the compression. The result shows how much smaller the file became.

  4. Download the smaller PDF

Download the compressed file, or save it to My documents if you have an account.

Questions about Compress PDF

Which compression level should I choose?

Recommended for most files. Light when the PDF will be printed in high quality, and Extreme when size matters most, for example to get under an upload limit.

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the content. PDFs full of photos or scanned pages usually shrink the most, while text-only files are often well optimized already. If no saving is possible, your original file is returned unchanged.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes. Compression works on images and the file's structure; text, fonts and links are kept, so the PDF stays searchable and clickable.

Can I compress a password-protected PDF?

A PDF that asks for a password to open must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF. Files that only restrict printing or editing are compressed and keep their restrictions.

Is compressing a PDF free?

Yes. Without an account you can run 3 tasks a day, and a free account gives you 5. Pro and Business plans have no daily limit.

What happens to my file after compression?

Files are encrypted in transit and deleted automatically: after 2 hours for visitors and after 24 hours for account holders, unless you save them to My documents.
