Cookie policy

This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies PDFVelora uses on pdfvelora.com and why. In short: without your consent, we only use what is needed for the website to work or to remember choices you make, such as your language. If you accept them, we also use analytics cookies to understand how the website is used. We don't use advertising or social media cookies. A cookie banner lets you choose which categories of cookies you accept, and you can change your choice at any time.

What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser and that the browser sends back on later visits. Websites can also keep data in your browser's local storage or session storage: this data stays on your device and isn't sent to the website automatically. The rules on cookies apply to both.

Cookies we use

The cookies below make up the "Strictly necessary" category of our cookie banner: they are always on, because the website can't work properly without them or because they store a choice you made. All of them are set by pdfvelora.com itself (first-party cookies). Some names start with __Secure- or __Host- on the live website, which only tells the browser to send them over secure connections.

NamePurposeDuration
NEXT_LOCALERemembers the language you chose, so pages open in that language.Up to 1 year
pdfv_consentStores the choices you made in the cookie banner, so we respect them and don't ask you again on every visit.6 months
pdfv_guestA signed random identifier for visitors without an account. It links you to the files and tasks you started and counts your free tasks for the day. When you sign in, your files and tasks move to your account and this cookie is deleted.30 days
authjs.session-tokenKeeps you signed in to your account.30 days, or until you log out
authjs.csrf-tokenProtects the sign-in forms against cross-site request forgery.Until you close your browser
authjs.callback-urlRemembers the page to return to after you sign in.Until you close your browser
authjs.pkce.code_verifier, authjs.stateSecurity checks during sign-in with Google, used only if you choose that option.15 minutes

Data we keep in your browser

Some features keep data in your browser's storage so you don't lose your work. This data stays on your device: we don't receive it unless you save or send something yourself.

Files you drop on the home page are kept only in the page's memory until the tool opens; they aren't stored in your browser.

These are only set after you accept the "Analytics" category in the cookie banner. They are set by pdfvelora.com itself (first-party cookies): the PostHog script is part of our website and sends its data through our own servers.

NamePurposeDuration
ph_<key>_posthog (cookie and local storage)PostHog: a random identifier for your browser and your current visit, so that visits and events can be counted. If you are signed in, it is linked to your account's internal identifier.1 year
ph_… (session storage)PostHog: identifies the browser tab during your visit.Until you close the tab
pdfv_new_accountSet when you create an account, so that the account creation is counted once.10 minutes

If you withdraw your consent, the measurement stops and these cookies and stored data are deleted.

Third-party cookies

Pages on pdfvelora.com don't load advertising or social media scripts, and no third party sets cookies through them: the analytics cookies above are set by pdfvelora.com itself. Error reports (Sentry) don't use cookies.

When you pay for a plan, Paddle's checkout opens on our pricing page in a frame served by paddle.com, where Paddle may set its own cookies, for example to prevent fraud. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google's sign-in page sets its own cookies. These cookies are governed by Paddle's and Google's own policies.

The first time you visit pdfvelora.com, a banner asks which categories of cookies you accept. There are three:

  • Strictly necessary: always on. These are the cookies listed above: your sign-in session, the guest identifier, your language choice, your cookie choices and the security cookies used during sign-in. Under the European ePrivacy rules and the laws that implement them, cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you ask for, or that store a choice you made, generally don't require consent.
  • Analytics: off by default. Lets us measure how the website is used with PostHog (see "Analytics cookies" above).
  • Marketing: off by default.

PDFVelora doesn't currently use any marketing cookies, so turning that category on doesn't set any cookie today. If we add other cookies in the future, they will only be set after you have accepted the category concerned in the banner, and we will update this policy first.

You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Your choices are kept in the pdfv_consent cookie for 6 months; after that, the banner asks you again.

Managing cookies

Besides the cookie banner, you can view and delete cookies and stored data in your browser settings, and block cookies altogether. If you block or delete our cookies, some features won't work: you won't be able to stay signed in, files you started as a guest will no longer be linked to you, and the website may not remember your language.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy if the cookies we use change; the date at the top shows the latest version. For more about how we handle personal data, read our privacy policy. For any question, write to pdfvelora@gmail.com.
