  2. Enter its password

Type the password that opens the file, or its permissions password.

  3. Unlock

Questions about Unlock PDF

Can you unlock a PDF if I don't know the password?

No. You need the file's password: we never try to guess or break it. If you've lost it, ask whoever created or sent you the file.

Which password should I enter?

Either the password you type to open the file, or its permissions password, the one that controls printing and copying. Capital letters count.

Does it remove printing and copying restrictions?

Yes. The unlocked copy has no password and no restrictions, so you can print it, copy from it and use it with other tools.

Why does it say my PDF has no password?

The file isn't encrypted, so there's nothing to remove. You can use it with any other tool as it is.

Is my password stored?

No. It's used only to open your file for this task and is never logged, saved to disk or included in the result.

What happens to my file after unlocking?

Files are encrypted in transit and deleted automatically: after 2 hours for visitors and after 24 hours for account holders, unless you save them to My documents.
