How to use AI writing assistant

Paste your text or open a PDF, Word or text file, choose what the assistant should do and click Improve text. Claude fixes grammar and spelling, rewrites for clarity, makes the tone formal, friendly or persuasive, or shortens or expands it, keeping your language, facts and figures. Each change is highlighted so you can keep or undo it one by one. You can also describe a letter or email in a sentence and get a first draft, with placeholders for details you didn't give.

  2. Choose what to do

    Fix grammar, rewrite for clarity, change the tone, shorten, expand, or write a first draft.

  3. Run the assistant

    Click Improve text, or Write draft. The result appears as it is written.

  4. Review and download

    Keep or undo each change, then copy the final text or download it as DOCX or PDF.

Questions about AI writing assistant

Will it change what I mean?

It is instructed to keep your meaning, facts, names, numbers, dates and links, and never to add information. Fix grammar & spelling only corrects errors and leaves your wording alone. Still, read the result before you send it, especially for anything important.

Which languages does it work in?

The text stays in the language you wrote it in, including its variety, such as British or American English. A draft is written in the language of your description.

Is my file uploaded?

No. A PDF, Word or text file you open is read in your browser. Only the text is sent to Anthropic's Claude, and only when you click Improve text or Write draft.

How long can my text be?

Up to 20,000 characters, and up to 2,000 for the description of a draft. For a longer document, work on one part at a time.

Can I use it on a scanned PDF?

A scanned PDF has no text to read. Run it through Scan to text first, then paste the result into the assistant.

Do I need an account, and what does it cost?

AI tools need a free account. The assistant doesn't use your daily tasks; each request uses AI credits instead: 20 a month on the free plan, 500 on Pro and 1,000 per Business user. One credit equals $0.01 of AI model cost.
