How to use Summarize PDF

Get the gist of a long report, study or contract without reading every page. PDFVelora extracts the text page by page, leaving out running headers, footers and page numbers, then Claude writes the summary in the format you choose: one short paragraph, a detailed summary with a section per main part and page references, or a list of key points. Scanned pages are read with OCR, and the summary is written in the language of the document.

  1. Upload your PDF

Drop the PDF on the page or choose it from your device.

  2. Choose the length

Pick Short, Detailed or Bullet points, depending on how much detail you need.

  3. Click Summarize

The summary appears as it is written. You can stop it at any time.

  4. Copy or download

Copy the summary or download it as a .txt file, or ask for another length.

Questions about Summarize PDF

Which summary length should I pick?

Short gives 3 to 5 sentences: what the document is, its main points and its conclusion. Detailed starts with an overview, then one section per main part with the key facts, figures and dates, and page numbers where they help. Bullet points lists 5 to 12 key points, most important first.

Can the summary add things that aren't in the document?

The AI is instructed to stick to the document, never to add facts, figures or conclusions it doesn't contain, and to say when something is unclear. It can still misread a passage, so check important points against the original.

Can I summarize a scanned PDF?

Yes. Pages without selectable text are read with OCR before the summary is written. English, French, Arabic and Spanish are recognised.

In which language is the summary written?

In the language most of the document is written in. For a summary in another language, translate the PDF first with Translate PDF, or ask Chat with PDF in the language you want.

Do I need an account, and what does it cost?

AI tools need a free account. Preparing the document counts as one daily task, and each summary uses AI credits: 20 a month on the free plan, 500 on Pro and 1,000 per Business user. One credit equals $0.01 of AI model cost.

What is sent to the AI?

Nothing until you click Summarize. Then the document's text, not the file itself, is sent to Anthropic's Claude to write the summary. Your upload is deleted automatically after 24 hours unless you save it to My documents.
